Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

six of crows.jpgSo I hyped myself up for this book and I hate myself for doing that. I try hard not to hype myself with things and because I did that the book didn’t reach my expectations.

That doesn’t mean i didn’t like it. I liked it a lot and all the characters were undeniably independent. I have no complaints with any of the characters, especially Kaz, Inej, and Jesper. Those three are probably my favorite. Inej I really like. I’ve always loved a character that’s good with knives. It takes skill to take someone down with knives as opposed to guns.

Kaz reminded me of Laurent in The Captive Price Trilogy. He knew everything and weighed every odd that they could go against. Nothing really took him by surprise. Except of course the ending. Which is where my first complaint comes in.

The ending.

Minor spoiler ahead.

I really hope that Crooked Kingdom doesn’t end up making Inej a damsel in distress. She had proven herself time and time again that she isn’t one to be saved. Kaz even says that he knows she can take care of herself but he’s still going to go after her, which duh he will, but I hope Bardugo doesn’t turn Inej into that character that she isn’t.

Another thing that I struggled with is the pronunciation of everything. It’s a personal problem of mine, I’ve always had a difficult time sounding things out, so I’m sure the only thing I know how to pronounce in this world is Kerch. And I swear if the ‘ch’ makes a ‘k’ sound everything I know is a lie.

I’ve lowered my expectation for Crooked Kingdom, sadly, but maybe it’ll go beyond. Who knows?
